Today is the First Day of Advent. I missed mass as I am still staying close to home with the new baby.
But the reading today is perfect for what advent is. Further in Matthew’s 24th chapter, it says
“Be sure of this: if the master of the house
had known the hour of night when the thief was coming,
he would have stayed awake
and not let his house be broken into.
So too, you also must be prepared,
for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.”
Advent is a season of fasting and preparation. The jews waited 4000 years for their Redeemer. Most of them missed him when he showed up, because they werent expecting what He was, or how he came, in meager fashion (incidently, this is why there are 4 candles… 1 candle… 1000 years, I digress)
So too, at the second coming, many of us wont expect him to come as he will. Its more prudent to simply be watchful and ready, rather then joining the chorus of Dispensationalists who claim “There he is” or “Here he Comes”.
The Messiah will make himself quite present when he chooses too.
So for now, in this first week, lets prepare our Minds, hearts, souls and Bodies for the Joy of God With Us. Lord Jesus Come.
