Apes, Dry Bones, and other Musings

11 Then he said to me: “Son of man, these bones are the people of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.’ 12 Therefore prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel.13 Then you, my people, will know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. 14 I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord.’”   Ez 37:11-14

I haven’t written in a while. A lot has been going on my life, most importantly the fact I am along with Niki, expecting another child November 19th. That being said, other trials have made me become somewhat laced in my faith, enough so that I am doing bare minimum, and struggling to keep the conversation going.

Not too different from our society today. We have become very melancholy in our faith in this country. What’s ironic is, we have people who are very vocal about things like Abortion, Same Sex Unions (I won’t use the term marriage… Marriage is different… I digress though), and Lately, Bathrooms and Zoos.  Each one of those items in themselves has become a crusade.

However… there is a lot of talk amongst us so called believers… and not enough doing. We are not too different then a dead body in a grave. We cry out…  and maybe people hear us, maybe they don’t… but after that point, they simply go on their merry way.

This was probably a real valley, that Ezekiel, and others passed every day. No one probably paid much attention to it. Sure it was there… and there might very well have been the dead piling up in it. He after all lived in a time which had very little value on Life… and more on possession and advancement. Not too different from our time. This Valley… is not too different from our own churches.

How many of us have a dead faith? How many of us want to make a difference… but we lack the courage that envigorates us into action?  How many of our churches…  Get passed by everyday… where no on batts an eye…  We are in there… They are out there. How often are we lifeless. Dry bones, the moment we leave those churches

Sure we probably show up… We lift our hands… play our praise music… kneel before the sacrament. Then when we leave… we go home… and thoroughly integrate into society, complete with being as complacent as society has become.  Our Faith becomes entombed in us… with no life. It becomes a dead faith.

Living the Life… is more then going to church, and its more then following rules? Not one person alive follows the rules right… because guess what… we are all imperfect. The sooner we realize this, the better off we become. Too many times we either are beaten down by others or ourselves… into inaction. People will tell us “You act all holy… but look at you… just a liar… Criminal… sinner” – Guess what?  They are right. We all are liars… Criminals… Sinners.  However, purity is not required, nor possible. We are but instruments. When we remember that, we can find the real grace to press forward

What does this have to do with Apes being shot ,  Or Alternative Unions.. or Abortions?  Everything. The same people who will defend these items to the core, also will attack us.. telling us we aren’t perfect. We shouldn’t cast Judgement..  Jesus said not to judge. No.. Jesus Said.. Judge as you would be Judged.

But, we also have to be Courageous enough to point out the error, disagreement, challenge this has with our Christian way of life, while keeping in mind our own perfections. Make no mistake, those same imperfections will and are used to accuse us. But, to be accused is not the same as being condemned.

Yes, we are all Sinners. No, we don’t have to stay that way. What we need is to muster the courage, to be more then dry bones. We can be a mighty army again, we only need to stand up when he calls.

That’s what this scripture above is about. It predicts a church that is dry..lifeless. But, when the time is right, we will be raised up, and become a mighty army again. Its happening now. People have had enough.. they are scared hope is lost. But it’s not, it’s just beginning.

I know I am far from perfect. I have my own sins.. my own transgressions, and I can only rely on God’s mercy. But I also have a calling to stand up for whats right, and to not let the enemy accuse me, but rather, throw it back in his face yes, I am a broken weak person.. But the Lord Fights with me, always
